A message from Bundiyarra Chairman, Alan McDonald
The proposed Geraldton Aboriginal Short Stay Accommodation facility to be built on Bundiyarra’s grounds will provide much needed short-term accommodation for Aboriginal people visiting the city from regional and remote locations.
This facility has been more than a decade in planning, and has been developed by the Midwest Aboriginal Organisations Alliance (MAOA) in partnership with the Bundiyarra Board and in consultation with Bundiyarra elders and Wilunyu Traditional Owners.
Due to the cultural significance of the site, the Wilunyu Traditional Owners and Bundiyarra have commenced conversation regarding cultural protocols as part of the development of the proposed site.
The cultural integrity of the site will be maintained at all times. The existing plans ensure that the sacred songline that runs through it will be preserved and protected, as will the important waterhole.
No construction will take place over these significant Aboriginal places.
This is a much needed facility for people in the wider Midwest, Murchison and Gascoyne regions.
